polygon to subdivs problem

Hi,

I have a problem when converting from polygons to subdivs. I have modeled a character in polygons and combined the various body parts to form a whole. I then convert the body to subdivs and save the file. When I reopen it, the model has disappeared. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else come across this in maya 7?
