Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

its probably to do with your UVs

the UVs around that point are probably all squished up

that's a "Ch" pronounced as a "K"

Computer skills I should have:
Objective C, C#, Java, MEL. Python, C++, XML, JavaScript, XSLT, HTML, SQL, CSS, FXScript, Clips, SOAR, ActionScript, OpenGL, DirectX
Maya, XSI, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Motion, Illustrator, Flash, Swift3D

yeah - as chirone said - your uvs's are messed up, tho rather than being squished up, i'd guess that the actual UVs are stretched over the whole 0-1 space - which is why the texture looks scrunched up. select the geometry in that area and you should be able to see what is being affected.
