Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

particles trouble

hello. i have made a large scene with animations and want now to add some particle effects for gun smokes. the timeline has about 1000 frames now. when i click on play, everything is ok, particles are emitted correctly, but when i click on stop and then on click on some frame at the end of timeline, where the gun smoke should appear, maya just hangs.

Have you cached the particles? If you have not you won't be able to jump around the timeline

thank you for the tutorial.

well, now i have other problem. before i used dynamics. but now i'm trying to do same with nDynamics. and it doesn't work. when i create emitter and click on play button, timeline slider steps to frame 2 and nothing happens. after 10 secs or so it jumps to frame 200+ and so on till the end of the timeline. no particles are emitted. that happens only when i'm creating nDynamics emitter in my large scene. in the new empty scene everything is working good.

right click on the timeline set playback speed to play every frame

Sounds like your trying to play back in realtime which maya can't handle

no, i tried all three playback mods and it's the same for every of them.

when i create nDynamics emitter, a nucleus is created also. but i have a reference in my scene, which already contains a nucleus. after i unloaded that reference, nDynamics emitter works properly. is there any way to keep both of them?

So you have two nucleus solvers in your scene? Which btw should be fine. Normally by default any nParticle emitter should be assigned to an existing solver if you have one. whats connected to the other nucleus solver?

Seems like there is something weird going on in your scene if you'd care to send it to me admin@simplymaya.com I'll take a look at it for you.

If you wan't to save yourself some time and have some spare cash try this https://simplymaya.com/autodesk-maya-...=196&sub_cat=0 It covers a lot of ground with the nDynamics system as well as maya fluids. I of course would say that as i made it but...

so, i wrote it wrong in the previous post. i have reference in my scene, which contains nucleus. when i create nDynamics emitter, it is automatically connected to that nucleus. then come troubles which i described earlier. when i delete connections between emitter and nucleus and click on play, maya doesn't hang, but no particles are emitted. and i can't find how to create new nucleus for the emitter.

i tried that way already. i get error
// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2013/scripts/others/assignNSolver.mel line 233: No nucleus related object selected for solver assignment
but your tutorial brought me to the right solution. in the create emitter option box i switched existing nucleus to a new one. that way i don't get the error message, and the emitter works fine. thank you for the help.

If you get this error
// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2013/scripts/others/assignNSolver.mel line 233: No nucleus related object selected for solver assignment

Are you sure you where selecting the nParticle node? If you select the emmiter and try to assign a new nucleus solver to it you will get that error. Just FYI.

Glad to help.
