Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

need a method! Evolving fractal pattern while moving through a tunnel

Hi folks. I have a question regarding texturing, I think.

Basically, I have a camera that's flying through a corkscrew tunnel, and near the end I want the walls to show a fractal pattern that evolves as you continue down the tunnel. I know there are different types of fractals, and I'm not too experienced on their varieties...but I want the effect to have radial symmetry.

The tunnel walls are rounded, so it's more like a tube I guess. My first thoughts were to map a high res fractal image onto it, but I'm hoping there's a way to do it procedurally.

Hopefully someone has some experience with this, and my descriptions are good enough...

There could be something involving L-Systems in Maya. I honestly am not sure but this will be how you get the fractals...

I think your first idea is going to be a lot easier then trying to create a dynamic procedural fractal texturing node.

I would just use a ramp with a noise or some thing else plugged in to the bottom colour then plug that into a texture layer note as a transpent top layer............dave
