padlock button
Can anyone tell me what the padlock (lock selection) button does? I'm still struggling with maya and trying to discover all these hidden features that make it easier to use and not a royal, convoluted pain to achieve simple tasks. The lock button sounds handy, but it doesn't seem to do anything...?

That's what I read, but I can select other things with the button pressed no problem...As far as I can work out, if you select some objects and click that lock it locks the current selection so you can't select other things accidentally in the viewport
I can still move the object, scale, delete, unselect... I can't find anything I can't do
