Center pivot not working

Hi all, I have a model with the pivot not in its center so as usual I pressed "center pivot" but it doesn't work... the pivot just stays there on the left side of the object.
Do you have any idea how can I solve this issue? I know I could move it by hand but it wouldn't be precise and I'd really like to understand what's going on...

Thanks! user added image

they were 3 objects combined together. I separate them, gave them different names, centered properly their pivot for the first 2, but the 3rd is giving me this problem. (they have a slightly different shape too)
No parents, no groups.

Ops, sorry man I was forgetting to check the topic because at the end I just made everything around that mesh in order to don't move it.
Anyways, your solution actually worked! I wish I read it before... My bad.
Thanks a lot! user added image
