Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Maya (mentaray) live action (Image base lighiting)

Hallo everybody,
anyone can suggest some tuts about to rendering CGI for live action, using IBL (HDRI 360
equi panorama photo)? Of course, dealing shadows, AO, reflections, etc. on the (2d) background plate.

Warnings: I mean NOT still image rendering, but live action (Plate sequence).

Many thanks for a reply!user added image

thanks, but maybe you didn0t read well what I wrote...:
Maya (mentalray) live action (Image base lighiting), so NOT VRAY...
Warnings: I mean NOT still image rendering, but live action (Plate sequence).

Anyway, I'm going to check the andere link. They seems to see very interesting! Many thanks for your reply!

i read what you wrote just fine thank you - i included some tutorials from my quick search for stills because many of the principles are the same. no one is going to google the perfect tutorial for you for what you want then spoon feed it to you - because we're not your mammy.

Hi n,
because many of the principles are NOT the same, I wrote this post.
Compositing VFX in Still Image (you could ONLY use Photoshop...!) is some very different to composting Live action (you could useuse many software...). .
Anyway thanks!

I'll put this to rest.

Many of these principle are the same regardless of it being a still image or from a plate. Its up to you how you apply the knowledge. There are many different ways to one thing in this industry, you have to choose your tools of choice that suit your needs.

Whether its live action into a cg scene or a cg object into a live plate, its the same thing.

Usually a plate will get tracked in order for 3d objects to be inserted into the scene so everything follows. We have a tutorial for this on the site.

The 3d objects are then rendered using an hdri or whatever light setup you choose to use to match your environment. Dont rely totally on HDRI to match a plate, its good but they are never accurate, so its worth getting to know lighting using standard lights as well. Dont just follow fashions, the best artists use the simplest tricks. Once the render is done of your object then its down to you to comp it into the plate using nuke or after effects, it makes no difference, they do the same thing.

The links that were provided will get you on the right path, nobody is going to give you the perfect answer. its like anything else, learn the basics, develop a work flow that works for you at your level and then proceed from there...just look learn and ask questions, always ask questions, and search for answers, someone will have a way to do one thing someone another.

Eat3d have a couple of good ones too on cg into a live plate....

best of luck!!

Jay

Hi Jay,
actually I 've already explored all IBL features to make a Live Action & CGI lighting and rendering (3d plate tracking, create a skydome with original HDRI, improve on location real illumination with a directional light...) . The problem in Maya, how I said, is to dale ground shadows and AO on sequence (With still image I've no problems). I'm waiting for next issue of 2 DVD from Gnomon dedicated only to Live action and IBL with Mental Ray, by Fred Durand.
In the same time I asked how to dale this problem about casting shadow, AO and reflactions, refractions... there is no way to dale it, for me of course, using rayswitch, cause I dint' t find a way to dale it with sequence, but only with still image!
This is my problem...
