Default rendered avi file won't open

hi

my animation (camera moves) just finished rendering, but now that I'm trying to pull it into aftereffects to composite it, it won't open. Gives an error.

I tried opening it in just Windows Media player/ Winamp too, but it gives a file format error. Which shouldn't happen since its just an avi file.

these are the files that were created after the render

1) final_optimized.avi
2) final_optimized_cameraShape1.tmp.avi

I can understand if it doesnt play in winamp since its not compressed, but why can't I even pull it into Aftereffects?

thanks,
~nspiratn

it's possible that it had an error in the rendering process that messed up the file... that's one of the many reasons I don't recomend rendering directly to .avi.
