Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Looks like theyre set to template under the Layer manager/editor box thingi. Just untemplate them, and they should be normal. user added image

How did you get that 'skin' to appear between the curves? one of the surface tools for nurbs?

I used a technique like that in Max all the time (drawing lines and applying the skin modifier, wich fills up all the 4-sided patches), but I don't seem to find it in Maya.

btw: could you please use the 'crop' and 'save for web' function in photoshop? not all of us have broadband hereuser added image

maybe you can try this: rebuild the curves so that the opposites have the same number of spans (check attribute editor), then perform boundary or loft.

you may want to wait for a reply of someone who's better with nurbs than I am.

Your gonna want to rebuild the curves, so they have the same # of spans, like d24e stated. Make sure you have only 4 curves. Select the 2 side(profile) curves, then select the other two curves, the top and bottom ones (rail curves) and then Birail 2. You need to have only 4 curves, and they must all be touching. The two rails must be touching the two profile curves. Hope this helps. If your still having problems, I can be contacted at RsEagle27 on AIM. user added image

i have made sure the spans number matched. but somehow the curves didnt meet ( i worked slowly to make sure they met with each other, but they still didnt!!!! )

1- now i got this other problem. there are wrinkles on the surface! what to do ?

2- i wanted to rebuild this naughty surface, but i couldnt pick / select the birailed surface. let me know how to pick it!

i am sure i can model this car on rhino easily. seriously. but on maya, i feel helpless....

thanks for the help so far, keep them coming and i hope i can drink beer with you guys some day.

well i found that the curve's edit points are not distributed evenly. that might be the cause of the wrinkled surface.

somebody please download the file and help me on this one! i really need help, dunno what to do next.

just took a look at it.
first of all, turn on that history man. it comes in very handy from time to time.

and I marked where you have way too many CV's. I think you'd best draw that curve again, then rebuild it. Also make sure you have the same amount of min/max values by checking 0 to #spans in the rebuild option box.

I DLed your file, and did what I could to make it look good. What I did was make 2 different surfaces, because when I rebuilt the top (hood) curve, where it met the windshield/fron window support, it rounded off. So I made two surfaces, then attached them together. user added image
