Following Maxon’s acquisition of ZBrush at the end of last year, the sculpting software has updated its subscription policy. Perpetual licenses purchased after December 29th, 2021, will not receive free upgrades but only bug fixes. Previously, all updates to ZBrush used to be free. Customers who purchased prior to December 29th are still entitled to free upgrades for one year following the purchase. After that, you need a subscription to get the upgrades.

The new license FAQ page states that: “Perpetual licenses never expire. You pay a one-time cost for your license and own it from that point forward. Purchases of perpetual licenses after December 29, 2021, can only receive critical bug fix updates. Feature upgrades would require the purchase of an upgrade license (pricing and frequency yet to be determined).”
