how do you make metal coil within maya?

how do you make a metal coil in fast and easy way? should i use nurb or polygon?

create->polygon primitives->helix

Then play with the settings. It will probably be the fastest way.

thanks, now i face another problem, how do you bend the coil? or i have to adjust part by part?

You can use a bend deformer. Those are in the Animation menu set under Create Deformers>Nonlinear Deformers. Or even use a lattice and that is under the same menu as the nonlinear deformers.

i select the non-linear bend deformer but all i can see is a straight line appearing, how do i control it? thanks...
