Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

texturing or rendering error??? (1)

Hi guys,
I have a doubt.
Ok let’s see… I made a little alien creature, you can see it in the picture below, and I texturized it. So far so good, but here comes the problem…in shading mode, as you see, everything is fine…

In the texture map, also, everything is OK…

texturing or rendering error??? (3)

But in render view… hmmm… here comes the mess, as you can see below.
Please, can somebody explain it to me…, what’s happening, what’s wrong???
Thanks.

If you don't understand my question... here is my doubt: Why the peak of the thorns get green???
Thanks.

That shouldn't be. By the looks of it, it could be that the faces are not asigned the shader you have the texture map on. Faces like that tern out green sometimes. Other times they are clear. I would try re-selecting all the faces and re-applying the shader with the texture. That might help.

Hi,
It’s me again…
I examined my model and texture map and I realized that the thorns have the shader assigned…OK I selected the faces again and reassigned the shader… but the same result.
Maybe you can see it but the green color of the thorns is not because they have no shader assigned, is the color of the background of the texture map.
In texture mapping on the zoomed detail you can see that I put the thorns UV’s to be on the yellowish color…and in the render they have green peak user added image
I zoomed in to maximum the texture map in Photoshop to see if maybe I mist some green pixels on the yellowish spot, but everything is right… I can’t explain it at all... user added image
Even more… I deleted the shader, I rebuilded the texture projection, I made a new shader, reassigned the shader and guess what… the same result!!!
Shish, this starts to piss me off… user added image
Can be this a Maya bug??? Or what???
I’m waiting other suggestions.
Thanks.

For something like that, I think you would have better control if you have ONE thorn that is mapped into a seperate part of othe UV layout and each thorn shares the same UVs. If you want some variation, then you'd have a couple thorns layed out in the UV map, and have all the throns share from the 2 or 3 thorn UVs you have to choose from.

Hi,
Well guys for me it’s a great day after a stormy one… user added image
Finally I did it, I manage to fix the problem…
It was a little tiny one, but it gives me a lot of “head ache” user added image
OK, I will tell you how I fixed the problem… you know…maybe it will help you in the future if you are hindranced by the same problem.
In the thorns area I scaled up a bit the UV’s, because the UV’s from the pitch region were very condensed, overlapped.
That’s all, this was all what I have to do to fix the problem… simple isn’t it?
Hope this advice will help.
Here is the render after problem, oh… certainly I added some lights to the scene… user added image
Cheers user added image
