Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Paint FX and Text

Hey guys and gals! user added image

Quick question: How do I use Paint FX with text? I'm trying to work on a small project for my wife on her website and I need to have flowers growing on the words in the text. Any help would be greatly appreciated! user added image

Hi!

You have to select NURBS at output geometry when you create the text, as you can only use 3d-paint-effects on nurbs-geometry.

Then select the surfaces and choose in the Render Menu-Set Paint Effects -> Make paintable or something like this. Now, with the object still selected you can paint on it.

Best Regards

Thanks! user added image I tried a little something different as I created the text as a Trim instead of Polys or Curves. It worked like a dream, although the flowers came out of the front and drooped over - that was what I wanted but wasn't expecting. user added image

I love it when a plan comes together. user added image
