i prefer 2. More origional. Number one seems to borrow to much from retro robot designs. especially the head.

that new sketch reminds me of the movie "Metropolis" maybe you should watch that for inspiration :p

Well I know its a lil late, but I'd say Robot # 2, the first was is good, but reminds me of Iron Giant meets Mr. Freeze. Where the second robot, has sort of a grasshopper-esque feature to it. I could see some cool things with this one.
