i think with 2000 dollars you can buy almost the best machine on the market(i you dont want to change all your computer).
i depend on what you do with your computer, i depend what you already have on your computer.you should not change all your computer because you surely have a hard disk, you computer box, screen...whatever

I believe you can get the best machine there is too user added image
well if i where you i'd do some research on various websites on the net. I haven't been up to date latley but i'll give you some points, but again, plz do some research maybe you'll find better things user added image

If i understood right, you wanna buy a complete new computer

Here are some specs:

Processor : Pentium 4 HT 3GHz or more
RAM : go for 1GB
Graphics card: I'm not really aware of the market now, but i'd go with a 256 nVidia card.
screen:17" or more
Hard Disk: 80Gb or more

man, thats alot!, heres my spec i spent £600 on it,

pentium 4 3ghz
1 gig ddr ram
120gig hdd
19'' monitor
ati radeon 9800xt 256mb

sound network card extra fan cd rw +a dvd rom.

with your extra £500 you could get a might lot! thats twice my pc nearly!!! (this is if you build it yourself, i built mine on my own) if you buy one froma shop you most likely be ripped off and probably get one not as good as mine. if i were you id build it yourself or ask a friend or something. www.ebuyer.com are ok but sometimes unreliable. there are lots of sites out there that sell pc parts, if u want a list of sites just ask.

Just be aware, that Maya doesnt like some ATI cards.. 90% of the functions work no problems, but certain things just wouldnt display correctly on my 9600 card. I would stick with an Nvidea card to play it safe
