Maya 8.0 scramble problem

I can use maya normally and everything but for some reason it always scrambles my screen when i use it for a while. Screen is totally scrambled and useless and i have to reset my computer. What is wrong with my maya?

well it looks like a resolution that the monitor doesn't support

i'm using a radeon 9600 with 256 mb of memory and some up to date drivers.
