'transparency' problem in viewport

When I applied my finished texture to my model, it the model becomes 'semi transparent'. I don't know how else to describe it. It seems that I am looking through the front face of the model and seeing the inside of the back faces.

The x-ray is not on, and i tried messing with the hardware texturing option, but it still looks the same. Any ides?

thanks

Sounds like a UV problem to me, try a random mapping like automatic UVs and see if that changes anything, then you can undo that and fiddle with them however you like.
