Use a texture and a bump map

yeah as Steve says, a good texture and a bump map. but if you are going seriously close to the fibres, maybe use hair or something or even paint fx

Ok, yea i was just wondering how you guys did it, this is how I thought of doing it, I thought of both these ways within a day.

Ignore the lighting\modeling and everything else besides the flooring... tell me what you guys think.

The modeling is old i just threw in there, and the lighting is something i was testing out

The wood floor is filetextured, and the carpet is maya textured.
the carpet still has to be tweeked a lot
