transparency map not working with file textures?

for some reason when i plug a black and white file texture into the transparency value of a material it doesn't have any effect

yet the transparency slider works fine.. and the 2d textures like checkers works fine...

i tried connecting different outlets of the file node to the material node
like out color to transparency... it worked in reverse for a cube but not my actual object (see attached imaged)

the cube has a png as the transparency map, the other thing has a tga. neither has transparent pixels.

eeh... i can't even use a file texture that has transparency as a reflection map yet i can use it for eccentricity and glow intensity....

O_o

I've never had that happen. Did you try another shader, maybe even in a fresh scene? It could be something you tinkled with and didn't even realize.

i thought so too, but i didn't actually know...

thanks for the advice guys, iamcreasy, did you try it with a file texture node?

after a bit of tinkling and a soggy material later, i found out that the Alpha as Luminence wasn't checked...

now everything seems to work fine!

yay \o/
