I don't think you need to be good drawing stuff to model. I am not at all good at drawing stuff and I already find it pretty easy to come up with models that looks they way I want them too. For one thing I don't have to think about scale and proportions for different angel. I just model what I need flat and then twist the camera and the angels are perfect. Could never do that with a paper and penh. So for me 3D is easier than drawing. Other might say the opposite cause to do 3D you need to be good at splitting objects up in parts and shapes.
