Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Wings

Hello people,

I'm making a cartoon sword, and I want to add some wings to it. But. Not the very detailed feather type, but those plump wings that are actually modelled.

(an idea here, sorry for the image but it's the first that came to my mind https://www.cosplayhouse.com/images/D...er_02-1-05.jpg )

I'd like a tutorial or a technique at least, to get started user added image

I would just make the shape (block in), smooth it two times, then make the "impressions" using Normals maps. Seems easy enough to do...me thinks. :-)

Ah so sculpting is out of the way I see...

I'll work with normal or bump maps, couldn't be too difficult with the right amount of feather!

No not yet mate LOL you dont get off that easy...you could start with NURBS first then convert to poly's or start with a poly cube...4 divisions and sculp from there. A normal or bump map is the easy soltion...it depends on what you want to do?? I personally would try sculpting it first and see how you go man...cant hurt? I will post soon with an example if you like?

cheers bullet

Yeah I'd very much like to see an example if you have the time of course!
