Can I customize time range?

When I launch Maya the time line is set to 24 frames.

Is there a trick to make this always default to a custom length? Say 300 frames.

I looked into preferences and tried to extend the numbers but it doesn't work.
Any help would be create.

Hate to have to always set frame range.

Yeah, you can edit that in the userPrefs.mel file. Open up in a text editor and look for whatever seems to be the right number. Always something of a risk. Haha... back it up first.

Search in the text file for: playbackMaxDefault
I think it's that one.

The start/end ranges in the preferences don't persist in new scenes. The options for start/end ranges in the File>New Scene options do.

Gen - your solution works for me - and is simple to setup - I restart maya and get scene with 300 frames right away - this is Awesome.....
