This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

what can maya import

Are there any Free 3D modeling programs that maya can import i wanna teach my friend but want a program that i can open the files and edit them alittle since i'm used to maya alrdy

There's a program I know of called "Crossroads" that can import a lot of different formats and export them into .obj files which Maya can open.

You can also import 3D Studio files *.3DS if you install the plugin you can download freely at www.alias.com
