Creating a ray of light

I need to make a ray of light, shining on a char. Its for a project, its a roundtable from king Arthur. And i want a ray of light to shine on the char of the king. like a ray of sunlight shinning trough a window.

Can someone help me with this,

Light Fog

Keyword: Light Fog.
Create a spot light and go into the attributes editor and locate light fog.

That would create the illusion of light shining through dust/smoke particles in the air, thus lighting them.

Is this what you want to do?
