Mental Ray Area Light


when you convert a point light to area light in the mental ray node of the light you can change the shape node (regtangle, disc, sphere, cylinder, user...), i guess "user" is to define your own object as a light, but how do you connect them???, how dou you make any object act as a light?

i did already, but i dont can´t find anything about it on the help, could somebody be more specifc of where to find the option?
