Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

UPDATE

Textures are coming along. Been on a break for a minute though. Suffering from a horrendous toothache and the medication has me feeling less than creative. Bah! Anyway, here's the progress so far. user added image

Dirt, maybe. Rust, no. Hummers are made from aircraft aluminum, therefore, they don't rust. At least not the body panels. user added image

Ra1Der: Looking forward to it. Just make sure you start your own thread. user added image

Do you have references for the wear and tear on in service Hummers? Some of those areas are a bit unusual to get such a lot of wear in. I like the effect overall though, very nice.

Mine is the lowly fish topic, I play alot of unreal tournement, is this for UT or UT2k3? because I think you could get away with maybe a few more pollys around the wheel possibly, I know when I looked at the buggy model in the test map on ut2k3 the viechle was quite high definition.. but I like it user added image Oh and heres a real cool website! https://www.suurland.com/blueprints.p...y=3&order=name it has alot of blue prints to tanks, maybe more but I havnt looked that close.

The wear and tear is a nice effect but I wonder how it got so worn in the areas near the windows and things. If you think about people getting in and out with weapons and kit and flinging and dragging stuff around the wear tends to be on the bottoms and sides of doors and then on the body where people drive it into trees and other vehicles etc (driving lessons and the military mmm). I think it looks a mite overdone having it all over it, particualrly as American military paint is pretty hard wearing stuff. But that's just my 2 cents as they say.

Actually, the above is a high res version, 2048x2048 (that's the size I'm painting at for maximum detail). But when I shrink it down to 256x256, all that nice little detail goes away. So, I needed something to accent or highlight (if u will) certain areas. See the attached image. Notice all the nice blurry stuff. Mmmmm... 256 niceness.

Anybody got any idea how to prevent that?

btw Witchy, when you're trying to make something look very old, and you want to show the wear in the paint, you'll come to find that paint will always fade from the areas with less paint on them, normally these areas are around edges and openings such as windows and bottoms of doors, etc. How do I know this? I spent 5 years restoring old cars and lowriders. user added image

Apparently, this is the size to best view the model to keep the texture nice and crisp. BLAH!
