very nice modeling. i have yet to attempt a human character (not sure i have the skills - - - ), and for this being only your second attempt is excellent.

would hate to see you call it done without some more texture work, however. while i am not certain the look you are going for, just some more details on the textures would make an amazing difference. and at the same time make him look a little "tougher". while its very good modeling, he looks just too nice to be a gaurd. i can see the kids now - taunting then running and laughing!

keep up the great work!

Thx for the comments Anm8or. I just spent some time reading a huge thread on MISSS in CGtalk and got some good ideas on fixing some issues with the bump map. I will also add some more color variance that will be visible and put some hair/fur. My wife is bugging the heck out of me to model our daughter after she saw this roman guy, so I may work on this another week or so and then move on.

yeah- skin still looks a bit like a clay/plastic mix. But still, it is better then before.

I think im done with texturing, perhaps i'll add a couple more blemishes, but this is pretty much it (and about time). Now time to play with the hair. sad thing is from the other far out view where you need to be to see the helmet you wont see most of the bumps, oh well.

I started working on FG and HDRI and found that i had to basically redo a lot of the settings I had set up for the SSS shader. Its just a whole new game with FG. I played around with the textures a bit. I'll start working on getting the helmet with the crest looking good with FG next. Fur gets very dark for some reason with FG compared to normal MR lighting. Im thinking raising the ambient light a tiny bit or playing with the incandescence.
