This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.
Not sure what you are trying to do, but if you've got a polygonal circle, just select the face and choose the extrude face tool. But somehow I don't think that's really what you are asking.
Hmm, I see what you mean, of course you can, provided you actually have a circle face to extrude.
I´d guess you´d have to split some faces to get this face or something. I don´t know how to create the face though ... I suppose Split Polygon tool doesn´t work for this one. (hell! that´s a lot of tweaking to do!)
You would have to create a circular face using Split Polygon or any of the other available poly tools. It is impossible (as far as I know) to extrude anything other than the face's shape.
