Dragon Tutorial

Kurt/anyone that can help i am having wierd problems when i try to convert to subdiv after i have extruded part of a mesh - namely part of the dragons mouth - i have gone back and started this again a couple of times now as i thought i was was having a cheerleader moment, this is what happens - any ideas would be really helpful coz this is doing my head in - i am dying to move onto the body but i cant till i get the head perfect.

The vertices in that area are not merged. Merge the verts in that area. As well a make sure you have keep faces clicked on under you polygons> tool options and make sure keep faces is checked.
