Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

There is a magazine on sale in the uk called 3d world or some thing like that it has a dvd free in the issue i saw at the weekend in whsmiths it has the maya learning edition on it which i understand is the same as the retail version but it has a watermark splashed across the final renders screen (ie if u finish something and render it you will get alias/wavefront splashed across your picture)but is still excellent to learn on ....so u can then decide if u like Maya ....dont expect miracles at the moment just take your time and do the free tutorials on this site they really help...Im new to Maya too but with the help of the guys here im slowly getting there ..hope this helps

theres a 4.5 PLE coming out early next year, i suggest you wait for that instead of downloading 4.0 cos the watermark alone is enough to put you off maya

I think A/W took 4.0 PLE off their site in anticipation of the release of their 4.5 PLE. I went ahead and ordered the beginner's guide with a DVD and the CD of 4.5 PLE (it only cost $20 for a booklet, DVD and a CD with 4.5 PLE). They are going to put it on their site to download in Jan...

Good luck.

You should look for these PDF-files on A|W:
-Instant Maya
-Learning Maya

I could mention some other places to look, but I don't dare..

When I was first trying to figure out if I wanted Maya I tried the PLE and though the splash is anoying it doesn't get in the way and it is a fully functional version of Unlimited!!! A great way to learn Maya! I fumbled through som tuts with that and fell in Love with Maya shortly after falling in Love with SM user added image Download it get it however! Also Maya MLE is on the third CD of Unreal Turnament 2003! Even comes w/ a special plug-in to Import Export to UT2003! user added image Good Luck man and Welcome
