Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Maya to Max file Conversion?

I'm doing a project for class in 3D Max and I did some work in Maya and my teacher said just import what i did into 3d max, so i was wondering can someone tell me where i can find a plugin to export files into 3d max.

Use the FBX format from Kaydara:

https://www.kaydara.com

Works incredibly well. I use it routinely to move things back and forth between Max and Maya.

Hey dannyngan i downloaded the plugin but i can only export and import files in max. Some reason its not letting me export or import for maya. I tried saving a file in max in .fbx format and tried to open in maya and it doesn't reconize it. Did I do something wrong.

You need to enable the FBX plugin in Maya via the Plugin Manager (Windows | Settings & Preferences | Plugin Manager).

Well, you could use another file format, like OBJ, but then you don't get textures, objects names, scene hierarchies, etc. The FBX format is incredibly flexible for transferring data between programs. What's even more impressive is that it will transfer animations as well. I'd say bite the bullet and download the file.

Another possibility if you have both Max and Maya is Poly Trans.
