Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Hey P

Hows it going?

Anyway Michael, have an original Jango LOL

user added image

The mesh you have was pretty straight forward to 'correct' the eye loops are pretty much there so its just a case of reordering and splicing the rest to fit. A good tip is to do the nose last (pun not intended - tip/nose oh nevermind)

Okay, calling it done for now, so that I can move on to other areas of the model. Found one major mental block was my tendancy to want to make an edge extend out from the corner of the mouth. Its still not perfect, but it'll do for now.

Quick conversion to subdivs, eyes added, simple 3-point lighting. Now on to texturing. Whee!

texture in progress

Still making the texture, but the front is basically in place. You'll see some white where I haven't put the skin in the texture yet. Going slow, because I'm playing with different shader attributes.

The render reveals a flaw in the eye areas that I didn't notice in the lambert views. Seems my lower eye lid isn't flush up to the eye... it'll get fixed soon.

Lookin' really good!

Just bought Learning Maya - Character Rigging and Animation, and when I've messed around with it, I'll probably... Oh wait, make that "hopefully" (gotta put in som WoW time as well user added image )... get around to making a model of my own head as well and try out some facial animation...

But the model and textures look really good, a few suggestions (not really crits):

Textures look a little blurry to me, maybe try increasing the resolution.

The hair. I know you said it was short, but since it's (as far as I can tell) only included in the textures so far, it look's like it's painted on with a marker or something. You might be able to fix this with some kinda bump/displacement map later, dunno...

But still, thumbs up!

Hey Michael

Give the light a bit more intensity so we can it better, also change the background color to grey or something. Also theres a strange lump on the lower lip making them look triangular. Give some more angles for some extra crit dude. I dont feel this is ready for texturing just yet there a load of tweaks in there to kill first
This is the thing with heads, especially a human head you know whats right and wrong straight away so you cant afford to rush thru. Oh show the ear as well

Blomkaal,
Will up the resolution, I think its a 512x512 right now. But given Jay's advice I'll be going back into the mesh again.

Jay,
Do you want the the mesh on the various angles, or just the flat shader? Really appreciate the guidance.

sniff... I love you guys. SM rocks.

Hey Michael

Just without the texture and also wire on shaded would be spot on.
