Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

nah i didnt mean stop modeling...but the knee was a bit "wierd" and since u had a gray color it looked a bit like medal. and as for being "half pregnant" she has a wide hip. considering that her legs are twice the size then the rest of her body on ur latest post.

for now im gonna drop the subject about her proportion. so far she's coming along nicely.

A pint of example is worth a gallon of advice!!

"subtle" could be the appropriate expression, hehe! but that is what makes the difference.

No I know you didnt mean it, that was tongue in cheek...

I havent increased the legs in size anywhere since the last post. Ive just added some minor shape from Falotts comments.

The grey color you refer to is a blinn shader with a high specular setting so I can check for abnormalities in the model, ie: unwanted lumps or bumps

But on a more serious point, why drop the subject on the proportion, its a WiP forum if you are going to crit my work do so, but give me some constructive feedback otherwise dont bother me with your comments

have you ever asked yourself why vaginas or the loby parts are so funny? I mean is it like the evergreen - U fart and I laugh thing? (sorry for this inappropriate comparison!) someone might ask why genitals are so very tabu among a bunch of guys modeling naked women all day long..

I once took a course of anatomic drawing at university and I never heard someone saying: cover this ... thing woman! cause we all drew them down to paper - members and vaginas user added image

won´t bring this topic up no more, but I just had to raise this question once.

cheers!

(just tell me if this is wicked and I´ll delete all concerning posts or parts of them)

as I mentioned on 'are you single'.., 3D porn is becoming BIG in Japan. There's a game (maybe a few) where you pick your girl (like you pick a plane or a gun) and make her do what you want. There are mechanical female genitals that were demonstrated with the engineers fingers that enabled one to actually have sex with these 3D models (come out with it Jay, this is REALLY what your this projects about, you've found work in Japan). It went further to show the men, up to 50 on the show, maybe older, the Japanese have problems meeting people because of their shyness, hence so many brothels there, or clubs if you like but a rose by any other name, ect..,

anyway the models were amazing, simply amazing feats of 3D.

Another interesting thing was it went further to dolls, plastic dolls made to feel real (in all ways) with care taken of skin texture, ect, but one guy said he was disappointed with the breasts because they didn't fall flat when his doll was laying down like a real women's does. I was talking to my wife about it last night (she is Japanese in Japan caring for grandmother) and she said, yea, it was a big problem there, with parents worried for their sons who are in love with their dolls and will probably never get married, as I said, she said it was a BIG problem that's come (excuse the pun) about recently.
This brings me to my point, which is, some dolls didn't have human eyes, (some did and were amazing) but had manga eyes which goes to show as you said, people see what hey want to see not what is really there. it's about fantasy, control, fear of change, ect..
I think selective sight is a protective mechanism, selective awareness, if we saw all as it really was, the grime, poverty, (even just around our own homes, mine at least anyway) ect we'd go mad. Also I think that's why the girl you picked up at the pub looked so good until the next day (morning) when you can't find your running shoes fast enough and have an important appointment and can't stay for breakfast, user added image :headbang:

LOL

Jesus guys keep it sane!! LOL

Falott dont worry...I dont. I had a similar conversation about 3d genitalia with an ex female colleague of mine, we were saying if you are going to dress a character theres no point in modeling any of its genitalia, except of course the forms themselves ie breast shapes, vagina area and if you model a guy then a penis area. If you are doing a complete anatomy study then all of the above will need to be modeled. If you all notice on this model of mine the the breast and vaginal areas are merely just 'forms' although I will form in nipples ever so slightly on the clothing for the female but again it wont be over done as thats not what myself or the project are about.

I just need it to look cool...

Just one thing though, why do guys always model woman, I understand from the obvious point of view, but has anyone asked why the girls never seem to model guys though? Bizarre

Mirek: Damn dude, thats just sad

Does anyone recall www.amazonsoul.com ? It looked so damn promising in the beginning a few years back but its pretty much a soft porn project with very high res and cool looking characters, but the associated links are just well....poser porn and more comic porn and more porn. It just sucks people can sink that low for their work to get noticed, its almost like they are lost for an idea - 'I know lets make loads of 3d characters and make them screw each other!' mmm tasteful.

Anyway off the porn subject, I'll update later as Im busy on the neck now so until then....

Cheers Guys
Jay

Umm, why are you guys talking about porn and Jay why did you post an actual porn site up here?

Im sorry, but some of us, like me, are not near as old as u guys, and, to be honest, I really don't want to get addicted to that kind of stuff...

So please, for some of us's sake, keep it PG....

btw Jay, great model, looken better and better. I cant find any critiques

Matt the man

thats the last thing I'd want anyway, my daughter frequents my threads as well because shes never up late enough to see my work - shes only 8.

Its not an actual porn site, its a 3d erotic one, read my previous thread properly, I was making a point which youve missed. AmazonSoul was really good at one point but took the slippery slope...

One of the artists responsible for it was actually involved in the animatrix and final fantasy (www.renemorel.com) hence my interest in the first place being purely technical. If you look theres still a link to the old site on there with some real cool images of the characters and environments along with vehicles. Its also entirely Maya!!

Check out Renes site above you'll be more than impressed

And thanks too Matt for your comments on my modeluser added image

yea, also sorry to have brought it up but the TV show flawed me. It was sad and strange and as I said, my wife had told me about it but I never imagined the size of the problem.
I mentioned it as purely a technical feat of 3D and Jay's comment about, what we see and what is really there, very important for any artist. Sorry about the examples. I think it is obvious Jay never posted anything like an advertisement or even encouraged subscription, neither did I. I was joking but the story was very sad. Also what's this mean for our industry in the future. Like all media it gets perverted, or it is seeming to in some areas and it is good to keep an eye on it just to stay in tune. For me anyway.
In future I will remember that young children read this site, sorry my friend.

I also thought it of interest because of Jay's character, I should have realized he would already be aware of this stuff, but for me.., I was surprised. Such base stuff with such high tech gear sort of struck me as a strange .., 'juxtaposition' for want of a better word (just woke up.)

sorry to have taken the thread off course.user added image user added image user added image

just checked out that site, Rene Moral, the one done with maya, wow, the matte painting scenes, the enviroments, they were done in Maya?? Really, how? Are they jpeg or are they constructed from polys in the foreground with a background image (as in some games I believe??) or are they a complete enviroment. The character work, well the guy is amazing, he must never leave his computer?? user added image

Hey Mirek

Hey dont worry my friend. Im not offended, it takes morethan that to believe me, and being dad too Im aware of my little girls where abouts on the web at all times. Anyway on with the show...

Yeah Morel, pretty damn good huh, yeah the character and Vehicles are Maya as also the sets I believe, as for the desert backdrops I dont know, could well be a digital Matte painting.

Matt The Man: its not a problem, cheers dude

Also worth a look is Francisco Cortina: www.cortinadigital.com

Simply Awsome

Cheers

Last one for today,

All the geometry is set for the neck and shoulders to be merged together, ALL quads. Its a subd right now hence the smoothness of the wire

Tomorrow will tweak the clavicle and shoulder form before starting on the hair which will possibly be PFX but more likely poly...

Cheers Guys, enjoy
Jay
