glow in attribute editor

Hi. Up until yesterday, when I opened the attribute editor for any material I had, under the "Special Effects" option there was a "glow" with a intensity slider. and the option of hiding the source. For some reason, I cannot get that to appear again. If I hit the down arrow on Special Effects, nothing appears.

I have reloaded Maya 5.0. I dont know what to do. the channel box shows the intensity of the glow but does not have the option of hiding source which is what I need to do.

I'll take the command line for hiding source but I would like to see it in the attr. editor again...user added image please help

Thanks,
