complete newbie FIRE question

When I try to apply FIRE effect to polygon. I get:

Error: More than one object matches name: fireShape

This happens with a brand new scene with only one object in it.

I'm sure this is easily remedied, just don't know where to look. Does anyone have any idea?

As the Command line states: More than one object matches name, or no object matches.....

*I just needed to specify the objects name in the attribute window. Apparently, maya doesn't do it automatically. I guess my laziness will not be catered to.
