help with group selecting

after i group like 2 spheres or something i click on the spheres but it selects only 1 of them. is there anyway i can change a setting to make it select the group not the things that make up the group.

well if they r polygons u could combine them? or just shift click the other one lol

press the up key to travel up the hierarchy
