Error: Cannot convert data of type int[] to type int.

Hi everybody

I already heve a thread about thi at
Simply Maya > Lounges > Maya Basics & Newbie Forum > Error: Cannot convert data of type int[] to type int.

But I was hopeing that here more of you are hanging so I can get a quicker help.If you wanna see the aditional explination see the thread.Here is the problem basicly:

Every time I try to change the atributes (4 ex. material) to a polygon, nurb or subd I get
Error: Cannot convert data of type int[] to type int.
and only part of the oblect is selected and editable.Can someone please tell me what I need to do to make the whole oblect editable.
