[question] steel reflections

i've been playing around with reflections in surfaces, but i can't get steel right. it reflects light mostly, but objects aren't clear unless they're right near the surface. is this an effect possible to do using maya render, or is it something vector ray is necessary to do?
check out the still, the floor is way too clear. steel is more blurry. does anyone know how to get it like that?

so far my settings are:

reflectivity: 0.05
light absorbance: 3
chromatic abberation is on (but i don't notice a difference)
