I call it..... The Barracuda PRT-10

Wandering away from my little buginoid robot for a while, I made this jet plane for a school project. Yeah, I know it's not pro, but I'm still learning Maya, lol. Pretty much this whole thing is a Poly cube that has been extruded in certain areas. Reason i'm posting here is because I need C&C and some tips. I want to give it a really nice paint job, as in just a shiny paintover with some reflectiveness. Some tips on this would be nice. If you have any ideas on what else to add to it, I'd be happy to consider as it still needs work. user added image

Lol, yea- That's kind of my biggest problem right now. I wanna know how to map a texture onto an object. Like, is it possible to make a really mediocre texture in "Paint" and then put it on the object? I'd use that as my first TEST texture. user added image

i use paint for SOME textures, but usually I use it to create bump maps for... rocks. lol
yeah, well, it works, and i dont have friggin photoshop, i have Corel photopaint though, never tried using that for textures, anywyas, i kinda like the model, but i want to stress the fact that you FRICKIN NEED TO USE DIFFERENT SHADERS TO BRING OUT YOUR MODEL, YOU CANT SEE IT WELL IN ALL LAMBERT 1 USUALLY!!!! usually. sometimes your lucky and it works.

Ah,k I see your point on the color issue there. Well, these are the screenshots i took just after I finished the first part of modeling it. I mentioned in my first post that I wanted a shiny look on it like the picture posted below. What I'm gonna do is slightly smoothen the jet a bit and then study the metallic blue color and try to make it a shader on the plane. I noticed that while it was unsmoothened, the shaders like Phong and Blinn didn't really stand out much so I thought I'd leave it in Lambert for the time. Hehe, you can't deny the fact that I need practice, so I'll post my progress on this thing every now and then for feedback and suggestions.

:angery: :angery: :angery: Just my luck! Had it looking good and all and then I had to go and delete it! I was doing an IPR render then Maya froze. I had to ctr-alt-dlt my way out and ended up restarting the computer. I came back and tried re-opening my file and says that file is corrupt! :angery: :angery: Ended up moving it to the desktop trashcan.

Has this happened to anyone else before?

Except that it happens when I am NURBS modeing, and it just freezes, and after about twenty minuts it comes back but it moves SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOO sloooooooooooooooow. You cant even move the mouse without it framing. Anyway, sorry abot your model.

Cheers,
