Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

First walk cycle

After messing around so long with the mech i decided to do some funstuff.

ok, he looks a bit stiff, but i think he's still pissed off cause i didn't gave him a mouth, nose and ears. In fact i was not up to give him even eyes, but he refused to do the scene without eyes. He claimed that he would look like a jerk without eyes. So we agreed that i give him eyes and he'll do the walk.

nasty little creep ...hehe

As it is about 3 MB i can't put it here, so you can download the animation from my site ( divx 6.22 or better requiered)

Walkcycle

cheers

Hehehe cute little guy user added image

Suggestion - maybe his hands could swing back more. They seem to always be pointing forward? What may help is to rotate them almost 90 degs at the wrist so his palms are facing to the read, then maybe relax the fingers with a slight curl???

Scene is cool btw user added image

Rig

well, my very first "working" rig. It's quite poor. Only 3 joints in each finger, badly binded skin. I did this about a year ago and put it away cause my knowledge of animating was thin. If i think it over...i haven't improved much..hehe

I just had to do something else than moving UV's now i'm on the mech again user added image

cheers

im still confused when it comes to models like that is it all one object or are each arms and head seperate? from the body?

just finsihed my 1st walk too, i think this is ace and agree with the above comment

hiya user added image

yes and yes..

it is one piece, just a few polys welded together. i used a rigid bind on it.

you do simply one cycle and make it loop in the hypergraph by setting curves to infinity - that's all. it's more tricky so get the forward move adjusted so that the character is not sliding along.
and, what i left out, that the body is moving up a bit on the toe bend. otherwise his toe will penetrate the floor geometry.

would be no problem so copy the fellow a 100 times - but what for? he's giving me enough trouble in a single version..hehe

music is : A walk in the Park, by Peter Kent. quite old, but fits somehow. :p

I plan to do something with the little sucker, but with a better shaped body. Fiddling around with some face animations and looking for a cool story atm.

cheers
