problem rotating copies of poly elements

Hi,

why is it that when i make a copy of a copy of a poly element, and try to rotate it (E Key) it rotates the element around a totally different (x,y,z) axis not corresponding to the parts from which it was created?...the copy seems to be in a different plane....

ho can i correct this error?...and what am i doing wrong?

How have you got your duplicate function set? you may be duplicating into a new group, if this is the case then the pivot for the new group will be at the origin (0,0,0). Check the outliner to see if the new geometry is inside a new group or not, if it is change the duplicate attribute to duplicate under parent.

Take it easy,

Mat.

Uche,

The outliner can be found by going to the window menu and clicking Outliner, it lists everything in the scene.

To change the attributes on duplicate, click the little box to the right of the Duplicate command in the edit manu. If you are using Maya 8 or 8.5 the attributes are only effective on Duplicate Special.

Hope that helps,

Mat.

Hello Mat,

according to the outliner: the new geometry is being put into a new group (see pic)....

Hello Uche,

thanks for posting the images.

I think that because you are duplicating a group, you will end up with a new group as part of the process. Remove the object(s) from the group until the geometry is standing alone, as polysurface9 is, and try the duplicate process again.

good luck,

Mat.
