All depends on the final shot, I assume it will be an external? Probably the best and most direct would be MR sun and sky though you might need to adjust the gamma of the texture nodes. On the texturing it depends on the size in shot, make sure toy have a bump in there if its close up and make sure that your textures are 2xres of the largest size of the object in screen. Also for a plane an AO pass layerd in comp would help with bringing out detials of the model.
