UV hi poly to lo poly attributes

Ok I have a highly detailed model and have layed out its UV...now when I transfer the UV attributes to a lo poly model...the UV's are upshit...now is this the way it should be done and the lo poly messy UV doesnt matter? need some guidance. I need to have the high detail after texturing on the lo poly...I assume I am doing this correctly? This is for a game so I need the normal maps etc etc ad nauseum....

I think you only need the low poly mesh UVed so long ago that I did this, heres a link.........dave

thanks dave....I bloody forgot I even had this tut LOL. The thing is I needed to UV the hi_poly as thats the one with all of the texture detail....confused now.

I think you do a projection of the mesh from the hi rez model not the UVs........dave

aaahhhhhhhh maybe thats it....but I still have to UV the hi res...thats got to be textured..then UV the lo res and project the normals, diffuse spec etc from the hi res to lo res...having to UV both is a pain in the arse!
