Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

building a computer for maya

i'm building a hackintosh computer and want to build the fastest computer possible for running maya. does the speed/rending of my depend only on the video card? or also on processors and ram too? is nvidia or ati better? is it a good to get to run multiple video cards?

Hi Ben, there are tonnes of threads already out there on this exact question, try checking those first, as many people don't check these kinds of threads, as it's been discussed to death already. Also, I would STRONGLY suggest that you stay away from a hackintosh when running Maya. Maya is picky enough already with hardware/software configurations, and you're just asking for trouble with one. If you want to get full power out of your rig, I would go with Linux.

Maya only uses your graphics card for the viewport, so you don't need a beast. However, check the qualification charts before you buy. (https://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...12&id=18844534) Multiple video cards would have no effect. RAM and CPU will make the biggest difference when working. ATI/Nvidia is a matter of preference. I've never had any luck with Nvidia cards, but their Quadros are used more than ATI's workstation cards. (I would HIGHLY recommend you get a workstation card; not a Radeon or a Geforce, as they are notorious for display problems in Maya) The least expensive, certified Quadro card (the Quadro 400) is only $99.

Imagination is more important than knowledge.
