a very wierd problem in TRIS & QUADS! pls help

ok hey everyone i have created a 3d character model in quads and exported to fbx from 3d max to maya
and when i open the model in maya it opens in triangles and i dont know why plus i want cut uv edges to texture it and i cant because it is in triangles pls help me! i dont know whats going on

you know what is the problem? i have it exported as .fbx alright with that when i import that fbx into maya it apears with triangles but when i import same fbx in max it apears in quads how is that possible?
