Quadratic decay and spotL intensity 10...but no light?

Hi everyone - newbie question

Got a normal scene render with mental ray and a spotlight with raytracing shadows on.
No light linking or similar. With no decay - get normal looking spot light (intensity 1.0). Turn on decay. Blackness... Crank up intensity to 10. Still blackness...

Restarted Maya - still blackness...

What am I missing?

Thx

As you go down the decay dropdown list, the light falloff becomes steeper which means exponentially higher intensities. Eventually, this will lead to super bright highlights and the need for a tonemapper and even more hoops to jump through.
