Advice on animation sequence

Hey guys,
I create this https://youtu.be/tu_gtc7OnlE -
and need advice on general movements of woody character.
Fx I don't know how to cast shadow on character when needed.
At the beginning, when woody climbs up on the desk, there is no shadows casted on legs as well as when he drops on the ground. For on-table shadows I used background shader.

Suggestions appreciated.

I figured out how to do shadows on places where I needed. But I used After Effects and not Maya.
I used masks and applied effects to make it look darker.

To make this work properly you need to track the footage (if it is footage) and then from the track create a 3D scene with the table and put your character on it. Create a light to match the footage and then render out a shadow pass and comp the lot in After Effects.

The visual effects are very important while animating characters and the shadow of the character plays an important part in them.
