This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with
complex objects.
i just stumbled upon this, i know it hasn't been updated recently, but maybe you still want help. try getting the corner to look more like this picture and you'll get smoother results.

exactly. there must be an easier way to make my poly corner smoother. that long tutorial (though well appreciated) was for NURBS. my model is in polys.

I agree. That's why I was originally hesitant on posting the link. The original topic was rounding corners on a NURBS cube which is why I posted it. Anyway, have you tried converting your poly cube to subD (or poly proxy mode) and working on the corners that way? Might be an option if you're not getting the desired result through beveling.
I haven't had a problem just using beveling before. If you bevel it with a ton of edges, then, yeah, you'll need to go back and split it at the corners as indicated in the above image and pull the points yourself.
