Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

attach surfaces - problem

Hi,

I'k trying to attach two surfaces as shown it the picture, but after I've performed the attach, the resulting surface is kind of deformed.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thanks.

Surface direction, more than likely.

Safest way to attach something is to select the edge isoparm of both surfaces before telling it to attach.

Oh, that's easy!

You can't. user added image

Not without cutting it up, anyway.

The thing is, after you cut it and attached... you would still have at least two pieces. This is what patch modeling is. Multiple patches making up the whole.

If you want it to be a single mesh, I'd say your best bet is polys.

So, are you saying that you can never have a complete single surface with patch modeling? well, a surface like mine anyway?
