The sequel to the black animated comedy hits cinemas on October 1st. The first film in the franchise, released in 2019, grossed $204 million on a $24 million budget and received mixed reviews. It’s based on the characters created by American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 that have since appeared in many movies and TV-shows.

Each character came with its challenges for the CG team. The animated Morticia always had to look beautiful, and Margaux had enormous blond hair that required a complicated groom of 150,000 individual hairs. It was important to keep the look of the CG characters faithful to the original print cartoons. Cinesite, who did all the animation for the first movie, did a great job. Take a look at the nice breakdown reel below, which shows off the storyboards and final environments in Maya.
